Jake’s Leg Packs The Wildey for Roots Live Broadcast
It may have been -5 degrees and snowing outside, but Jake’s Leg fans packed The Wildey Theatre for a sold-out concert Saturday evening. The Roots.FM was proud to broadcast the LIVE concert to a record audience that eclipsed the final St. Louis concert, also by The Roots featuring Gypsy. Over 11,000 Roots listeners enjoyed the warm, safe & commercial-free concert at home, thanks to Roots underwriter JF Electric and the supporting Roots members. Over 4,000 Jake’s Leg fans listened to over an hour of the show. Another 7,000 Roots listeners from all over the world via The Roots mobile apps.

A great deal of work goes into producing a live concert broadcast. And it all starts with a generous underwriter like JF Electric. Six Roots volunteers worked on the broadcast. John & Sam Stephens and host Bill Neil braved the cold and snow to get to Edwardsville with equipment cases. Jim Davis spent six hours alone in our studio at KETC TV, controlling the audio board and playing music to fill breaks. If you were listening on a mobile app, you may have noticed that we could provide Artist & Title information for a live concert broadcast for the first time. Mark Hyken assisted with automation & schedule changes remotely from his home.
Randall Furrer is a member of Jake’s Leg and hosts Jake’s Leg Radio, which is heard on Thursdays at 6 PM on The Roots. He is pictured in the photo above.
One final note of thanks to my son Sam, who helped move all of our equipment out of the Wildey down to the street from the third floor and loaded our two SUVs for the one-hour ride home. Without Sam’s help, Bill and I might still be at the Wildey Theatre or worse.
